Welcome to my personal website

The aim of this website is to summarise my professional background, research interests & current projects and provide a collection of useful resources relating to Arts Management & Cultural Policy.

About me

Picture
I am currently working as a Lecturer in Arts Management and Cultural Policy in the School of Performance and Cultural Industries at the University of Leeds, where I manage the MA in Culture, Creativity & Entrepreneurship.

My professional background is in theatre management and producing. In 1997, I directed and produced Ionesco’s
La Cantatrice Chauve as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, before moving to Paris, where I managed One World Actors Productions for two years, before moving back to the UK to manage the leading Scottish touring theatre company Benchtours.

In February 2006, I took up a post at the new National Theatre of Scotland, and was with the company for the first two-and-a-half years of its existence, working as the Administation Manager and then as Producer. I was lucky enough at my time there to work with some great directors such as Pol Heyvaert on Aalst and Anthony Neilson on The Wonderful World of Dissocia, and of course with the resident Vicky Featherstone, Neil Murray, John Tiffany and Roberta Doyle... In 2008, I left Glasgow to take up the post of Senior Lecturer in Arts & Entertainment Management at Leeds Metropolitan University.

I am originally a modern languages graduate from Nottingham University and also hold an MBA from the University of Surrey’s School of Management.
In 2000, I completed a PhD in French Theatre and Philosophy at the University of Glasgow. My thesis compared the plays of Jean-Paul Sartre and Eugène Ionesco from a humanist perspective.

My current research interests are related to the qualitative value and impact of theatre from the audience perspective. I have also published on arts marketing, rural touring, arts & entertainment management and cutlural policy - for futher details click here.
